Diving In

One of the hardest things for a writer to do (okay, I'm talking about me) is to promote their own work. First of all, if we're talented enough to produce a well-written novel, we're also smart enough to know all its failings. There is no writer in history worth a damn who has read his or her work and didn't want to change something.

I have no problem standing up in front of thousands of people and being funny, but ask someone to read my book, well, that's hard.

See, reading is such a personal thing. I've never saw a writer pushing his own book and thought, I want to read that. I know lots of people are different, but I want to discover my books. I want to find them myself or have a friend tell me about them.

Okay, maybe John Green. I saw him mention a book of his, but I had already read him and I really found him because he did what I have tried to do in my life. Talk about anything BUT my writing and hope people find it interesting enough to check it out.

I have another problem. I don't like writing one thing. I wish I could crank out a legal thriller every six months and there's nothing wrong with that. I'd just get sick of it. So, if you like "Love on Haight," you'll probably like my upcoming novel "The Velvet Sledgehammer." And the novella I'm finishing called "Don't Get Your Panties in a Twist." But you might find "Idiots in the Machine" a bit out there.

All I can say is...read the sample. Take it out for a drive. Kick the tires. And maybe...you'll fall in love.

More later...
