Prologue
25+, juggling career and romance, looking for a stable relationship to settle down after a few years. Have a steady boyfriend but unsure if he will walk down the aisle with you. And one fine morning he declares, “Look at X, Y, Z… They maintain themselves well. Perfect washboard abs!” You question yourself, “Does he mean I am fat? Does he not find me attractive?” And you hit the frenzy of severe exercising, numerous diets and pills, to get those washboard abs like X, Y, Z. You hate going out shopping with him because you feel embarrassed when the most ‘in-style’ jeans can’t seem to fit your bottom. You look for the tallest heels to look a few more inches taller.
30+, overweight with a jelly-belly, frumpled look, not sure whether to attend to the crying baby or the lock of hair pricking your eyes. Walking with your husband in a mall or a multiplex, who is all praises for you but you perceive him to be a big ‘Liar’. Then suddenly a young, slim and beautiful woman passes by and you can’t help but notice that your husband is noticing her. You curse her under your breath, but your husband on the other hand turns around and says, “Darling! That was pretty loud.” Yes! It does happen with quite a few. Most of us have lost the self confidence or rather the body confidence which was once a part of our personality.
We can’t imagine someone appreciating us genuinely as we ourselves have a negative body image.
We seethe under our breath as we feel threatened by another pretty looking chic. Believe it or not, most women suffer from high insecurities and negative self-esteem.
Responsibilities of a married life and physical changes after pregnancy render many women incapable of taking care as they did before, much less appreciating themselves anymore; especially their bodies. Not only are these group of women
affected by low self-esteem and hatred towards their own bodies, but they live in the false hope of returning to their youthful looks by adopting various fad diets and pills.
In the recent times a new breed of highly conscious women has grown by leaps and bounds (irrespective of their marital status). These are women who live in continuous denial. They do not want to accept the changes that time has bestowed upon them. Thanks to the size zero fad, and the ‘Slim-is-in revolution,’ most of them just don’t have a healthy image about themselves. They try to emulate the rich and famous in their lifestyle and fashion sense without realising the outcome. What they also do not realise is that these celebrities put in hours of exercise and precise diet plans on a daily basis (which is difficult, though I won’t say impossible) in our day-to-day life to look young and toned.
This book is not meant to discourage anybody from adopting a healthy lifestyle; instead it’s aimed at appreciating and enhancing your current body type. Exercising and diet control are important changes an individual can apply to become fit (if not slim). But that’s not what this book is all about. This book is a guide on how to present your current body with the correct fabric, cut, and style, and look stylish on all occasions. Learn to apply make-up in a manner that makes you look ‘fab’ instead of drab. You will also understand the correct way to use make-up for hiding your flaws and focus on your assets.
This, in short, is a style guide to help you make your own shopping list and guide you where to invest, what to wear and where.
This will also tell you what fashion essentials are and how to use them for your benefit. You will certainly grab all the attention that you desired, with new found confidence, poise, and enhanced looks.
Love yourself and respect your body! Take care of it as its vitality is precious.
Be fashion forward and fashion conscious but don’t be a slave to fashion. Dress elegantly and you are bound to look great.
