Mmm...blog #2
A fan through facebook asked me what I enjoyed reading and what sort of music do I like, favourite films, television so rather than clog up facebook, I have decided to put that info up here for anyone who cares to know.
I have always read, from childhood where I learnt to escape and I now spend most of my time reading the following authors:
Tim Willocks (in my opinion probably the best living writer in his field), Joe R Lansdale, John Sandford, Christopher Fowler (his Bryant & May series are exceptional crime novels - totally original), Carl Hiassen, Tom Sharpe, Terry Pratchett, Joe Abercrombie (is there a better fantasy writer out there?), Lee Child, Michael Connelly, Tim Dorsey, Stephen Leather, Nicholas Evans (The Horse Whisperer, one of my all time top 10), Dean Koontz (though he's losing his hold on me), Mike Lawson, Harlan Coben, David Morrell, Simon Clark, Ben Rehder, and the Grand Master himself Stephen King and a lot of others but I don't want to blab on too long.
As for music, where do I start, I'm a music nut, but there are certain artists that I listen to most and they are as follows: anything that Trent Reznor does (nine inch nails, how to destroy angels, his film scores with the masterful Atticus Ross), John Mellencamp, Seasick Steve, The Gorillaz, Ellie Goulding (such a unique female vocalist), Adele, Steve Earle, the composer Michael Nyman (The Piano is, in my opinion, the greatest film score...ever), The Rolling Stones, Marillion (the Fish years only), Iris DeMent, Zucchero (Chocabek is without question one of my all time favourite albums) but I also listen to everything from Britney Spears to Jazz, Nina Simone to Black Eyed Peas. Life without music, geez not even worth contemplating, oh and I listen to classical music every day - Beethoven, now there was a GOD.
As for television...very little, however I am a huge fan of the following: ER (I miss that hospital), Married With Children, Cheers, Deadwood, Breaking Bad (has there been a better drama in the last 10 years?), The Good Wife, The Walking Dead, Boss, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, Damages and Friday Night Lights (as far as I am concerned the best show ever screened).
After reading and music I adore films, and there are way too many to mention that I highly rate but I do have a top ten of modern cinema (thats not to say they are the best films of the modern age, just personal favourites), and in no particular order they are: Man on Fire (Denzel Washington version), Shawshank Redemption, Untamed Heart, Serenity, The Man From Snowy River, Point Break, The Departed, The Big Lebowski,A History of Violence & Beasts of The Southern Wild.
Thats that for anyone bored enough to know, many thanks for interacting and feel free to get in touch.
