Yay, my first blog entry plus – a teaser!
This is all very exciting, I’m still getting the hang of this blogging thing, so excuse me if this post looks like info dump.
First thing, my upcoming novel, What’s Left of Us, has both a blurb and a cover.
A year ago their lives were changed forever. Calla Jensen, a college freshman at University of Alabama, can’t move on. She doesn’t deserve it. But time doesn’t stop for anybody, and no matter how much she fights it, making new friends and leaving her past behind is inevitable.
When her roommate makes her go to her first college party, she doesn’t expect to come face to face with the person whose life she almost ruined. Old wounds open up and together they must come to terms with the events that led to three best friends being torn apart forever.
But Calla has a secret, and it could destroy the fragile ties she is slowly building back with the people she loves.
Release date is set to be mid-summer of 2013, but I am trying really hard to get it out there sooner. Head on over to Goodreads and add it to your shelf. The story is past halfway through, but I just made some major changes, so it took a while to set things straight and for everything to click again. It’s not a setback, it makes the story even better, so I regret nothing.
As of right now, “What’s Left of Us” has 685 adds on Goodreads, I have over 170 likes on my Facebook page (oh and, if you want, add me as a friend there, I love new friends!) Yay! Thank you all so much for your support! I’d say this is a cause for a little teaser! Please bear in mind that this is very rough, unedited version, that will most likely be changed in the final version. Please share it, critique it, whatever it. Okay, okay, I’ll stop babbling. Here goes…

“I knew you didn’t want me there. God,” he said, his eyes full of something I recognized very well. Self-disgust, guilt, shame. I saw it every time I looked in the mirror.
“You don’t know anything. I always wanted you,” I whispered. He turned his back to me and ran his hands through his hair, resting them at the back of his neck. I hesitantly reached out with my hand, wanting to touch him, but then I let it fall.
He scoffed at my words. “You sure had a screwed up way of showing that,” he said, then took a deep breath to calm himself down. “Look, I didn’t come here to fight with you.”
“Why did you come here, then?”
His shoulders tensed at my words, and he took a few seconds before he turned around.
“What do you mean?” he asked. His shuttered expression told me he knew exactly what I meant, though. It may have been a year since I last saw him, but I could still read him like an open book.
“You knew this was the only college I got into,” I said. “But you had other options. So tell me, why here?”
His features softened instantly, and the mask he was trying to keep on his face dropped. He walked back to me and took both my hands into his, leaning his forehead against mine. I tried to memorize the way it felt, to capture this image in my brain because I didn’t know if I’d ever experience him being this close again. His eyes were closed, his breath warm against my skin as he was trying to get out the words I knew he’d say.
“Because I couldn’t not be around you.” It was almost a whisper, but I heard it. He gave my hands one final squeeze, then dropped them by my side and just walked away. I stared at his retreating back, willing him to turn around, but it never happened. Of course it didn’t happen. He just left me behind, again.
