Getting noticed
I've been at this self publishing game for 4 months and consider myself to be a novice. My book Run Away (http://t.co/CYsBi2T4db) is only available on amazon kindle for two reasons:
1. I still don't fully understand how to get the most out of publishing exclusively with kdp select
2. I'm not sure if I would need to go through the long and arduous process of reformatting my book for other platforms.
Then there's the question of free giveaways. With amazon kdp select you're allowed 5 days every 3 months. It's astounding how many 100s of downloads I get but does anyone actually read my novel?
So is it worth doing? I'd say only for the dozens of retweets and thrill of seeing people download your novel around the world. Maybe I'm not doing something I should be. Please tell me if you know!
My biggest success has been with twitter where I've built a following of around 1,500. I try to target authors, book reviewers and bloggers but it doesn't always work that way. One of my most enthusiastic #FF fans isn't a writer as far as I can tell.
In my next post I'd like to discuss pricing: how some authors are allowed to sell for 20p on amazon but I'm not allowed to...what is the optimum price that makes people hit the buy button...
Comments welcome! See you soon.
