A Few Things/Updates

As might have been seen, I added another excerpt from my novel "The Pale Hand of God." This is the introductory chapter to Kinlan, who, as might have been obvious, became my favorite character while writing the book. I do fancy all my characters, and Lainn especially has my heart, but it was Kinlan I turned to in my darkest hours. It was his levity and humor I admired, and often used as an outlet when consumed with thoughts of inadequacy. Writing his scenes, and reading his scenes, it really makes everything worth it. And now, going through "The Dark Arm of God", I find myself compelled to turn to his chapters and just read them. Of course, I have to smack myself a few times and get back to writing/editing. But I think Kinlan is a character all my readers will enjoy. Not to mention he might have made the first "yo mamma so fat" joke in fantasy history. (I might be wrong. It's very likely I just haven't read the story with that joke in it).
I finished another short story today, this one logged in at a little over 10,000 words. I have not titled it yet, and for now I have simply referred to it as "The darkest motherfucking thing I've ever written." You might have seen that on Twitter. Seriously, I'm not sure how it grew to what it is. I'm not too much of a believer in outlining a story. I do it to a very minor extent. My experience has shown me that stories take on lives of their own, and no matter what you try to do to rein them in, they always get loose. So I've taken to following my stories, watching as they develop, and letting the characters become themselves. And it comes to pass that some of my characters (through no fault of my own) turn out to be right bastards. We can niggle about the environment and the situation and the gods as to why they turn out the way the do, but the key point here is that they become evil in ways that, even through little fault of their own, are unforgivable. This has happened. My lead character, Talid, commits what may be the most heinous crime in all of my stories. And if you've read my others you're well aware that this crime must be of the darkest magnitude.
    It is. It really is.
How did I arrive at this plot? How did my character reach this fate? Well, naturally, really. As naturally as anything in fantasy. He was confounded, tricked, blinded. He was a man with a private wish. Does there need to be anything else?
This story will be posted as soon I read through it a few more times, picking out the mistakes, and maybe adding a word or two. There is one concept I'm not sure I fleshed out properly, and I'd like to build upon that. Plus, I have to think up a reasonable title.
I've also made quite a dent in "The Dark Arm of God", which is book two of "The Paruus Histories." I plan on posting an excerpt of the Prologue. It will be a work in process, certainly. Currently I'm on a Kinlan chapter, a rather difficult chapter to work with at the moment; his humor might be failing him at this point.
