Conforming.

I admit that I've tried to jump onto hot YA bandwagons but in the past year I've just been like whatever I'll write what I want and that is what I wanted to talk about today.

To all my fellow authors and aspiring authors, write what you love not what is hot. I feel like when people conform and write what is IN they end up writing a shitty story. Some can do it, but some fail big time and it's sad to see.

We as authors write for our fans BUT we also write for ourselves more than anything. Always remember that. If you want to write a book about a girl falling for a cyclops gnome then write that.

Unfortunately originality in YA is hard to find and what I think is funny is a lot of readers will be like "Where's the originality? We need originality in YA!" but when an original and unique YA book comes out, it's left out in the dust.

For some reason I find that a majority of YA readers only gravitate to what is HOT and they are scared to touch something unique and different. That is sad and scary and I hope that changes soon.

Also cliches are fun when they are played with and twisted around. Don't use them if your just going to keep it safe. It's a bad move in my opinion. SAFE is bad.

The reason I decided to write this post today was because of the HOARD of New-Adult books that are popping out EVERYWHERE. I am outlining a New-Adult novel but I don't know if anything will happen with it, and I could care less. I'm simply just trying to see what I can do. If it comes out next year or five years from now so be it. If it never comes out oh well haha. I like to try new things and mess with stuff. Originality is important to me though. VERY important.

So in conclusion write what you LOVE and if you want to write what is IN make it yours, dig that originality out from within you and write, write, WRITE!

You don't have to listen to me, I'm simply giving advice and my opinion on things. But take what I've said in and maybe it can help you.

Also this is unrelated to this post but I've been getting asked what I'm currently working on. I don't want to say too much but I will say that it is Adult fiction and it's contemporary and no it is not a love story and no it is not a do me book.
