Light Seized Me
Light seized me when I was twenty lost and patched, golden and grubby years old. I wasn’t asking for it, but like silver rain down a glass tube it came. That began me, and is why at the age of sixty-three I had to write everything I learned has meaning into a story that seems impossible to tell. Think of the most controversial, minefield laden, passion packed, status quo gray-wrapped and warped, ho-hummed story you know of—that’s still subtly soaked with the twisted fear of extinction—and imagine re-imagining the entire thing, putting all the left out stuff back in until it sings like little mystical children running naked on a wild beach. Strangely, in a world like this, people get crucified for that.
This story, The Wild Christ Nobody Owns, has been published in Denmark. (What is it about those Danes? They seem to have an instinct for controversy.) It is getting around Scandinavia, and those still in touch with their wild Viking blood like it.
As for me, I’m currently living in Sweden. This is my eighth book in print. I have written three thousand poems, four novels, many children's stories, produced fifteen CDs of recorded work, collaborated on choral pieces, (one performed in the Kennedy Center and National Cathedral), and given over two hundred public recitals of my poetic work. I am currently polishing the sequel to The Wild Christ entitled The Passionate Holy. My on-line work can be accessed through www.blakesteele.com and reviews of The Wild Christ Nobody Owns are at www.wildchrist.org/wcbook.htm.
