Reading and Writing

Every writer is a reader first. That's a fact. Not every reader is a writer, and that's a good thing. Otherwise there would be a gazillion books and nobody would have time to read them because they'd be too busy writing.

Okay, so "profound" obviously isn't one of my strong suits.

I'm a writer, and I'm also busy doing a lot of other stuff, so I only get to read when I'm tucked in bed at night with my cat sprawled on my chest. I usually get in about half an hour before I fall asleep. Still, it keeps my book craving at bay.

When I'm trying to write and the words aren't coming, I sit and stare at the walls of my office, which are completely covered with bookshelves. This is comforting to me, somehow. Although the truth is, I've run out of room for "real" books, mainly because I seldom ever get rid of a book. So I guess eReaders were invented just in the nick of time.

After resisting as long as I could, I now have one. It has the advantage of holding a seemingly infinite number of books, of course, but it also has a tendency to run out of battery power on long airplane flights, and its lighted screen attracts bugs in the summertime. I do like it, though,(once I got over trying to turn pages.)

So now I have a blog on Goodreads, where I am both a reader and a writer. I have no idea what I will blog about. Perhaps we will find out together.
