The Guiding Principle is a very simple invitation: an invitation to take a closer, more intimate look at your life: an intimate look at what you have taken to be true about who you are and what’s true about life.

I’m not telling you what to believe or trying to impart some new form of meditation practice.

I’m not asking you to try and stop thinking, still your mind or imagine that you don’t exist.

I use words such as God, Nature, Consciousness and Presence, stating clearly that they are all interchangeable.

The Guiding Principle in all its forms is inviting you to see that the generally accepted reality – the way of things – is nothing more than provisional.

Our entire culture is based on assumptions. Most of them will dissolve - fall apart - when we enquire. Science is a set of assumptions. Money is a set of assumptions. Art is a set of assumptions.

As you really look you may well discover that your entire life revolves around assumptions that offer a very limited pallet to paint with. Believing they are true can create oceans of misery and suffering.

I'm proposing that we feel fearful and deeply uncomfortable in our own lives because we actually know that what appears as reality simply isn't true. The very fact that there is a yearning in us for something more beautiful and loving points to this. If there was no possibility of something more amazing, there would be no yearning. Just consider this for a moment.

The Guiding Principle is a disruption of the 'story' of separation and the constant soundtrack of anxiety that accompanies our lives.

It is proposing that the origin of our emotional sickness – and indeed all dysfunctional behaviour – emanates from the belief that we are these flimsy, ephemeral personalities.

They came into being through no will of their own, possessing no capacity to see the magnificence that grants them existence. These little sirens drown in their own illusions as soon as our impulse to enquire grows strong enough to silence their song.

Mostly they don’t sink easily though. Their passing can be turbulent, painful and complicated as they thrash around desperately trying to survive. Yet after they’re gone we see that they were nothing more than astonishingly beautiful patterns appearing on the screen of Consciousness.

I predict with confidence that if you look closely and honestly you will discover that you are infinitely greater than what you have always called ‘me’ or ‘self’.

Most people live completely unaware that a vastly more expansive, creative, receptive and above all loving operating system is available to human beings. Our attention is spellbound and lost in the contracted sense of 'self', never seeing that this is actually a 'state of mind' that regularly comes and goes - constantly in flux along with everything else.

When we loose our attachment (even momentarily) to what this contracted state displays we are gifted the opportunity to see it for what it is. If this gift is accepted things are never the same.

It's even possible to enjoy the particular discreet view of reality the contracted self offers up - laugh at the stories and turbulence it conjurs out of nothing.

The Guiding Principle is inviting you to see that your attention has been transfixed on a siren song, unaware of who you really are and what’s possible for you. This message applies no matter who you are or what circumstances you are in.

It is proposing that when the viewpoint or perspective of the knotted, afraid and uncomfortable little personality is questioned – really questioned with a desire to discover something new - you become potentialised.

From my own experience, and from the many other people I’ve come into contact with as a result of sharing this material, taking a closer look can completely transform a person’s orientation to life. A willingness to question the reality that you have been prescribed ignites something in Nature: it ignites something in YOU.

That's the proposition on offer here. I'm saying that when you become receptive to a beautiful and creative viewpoint, it appears that Life or Consciousness loves this and readily provides the context and content in which you are able to freely create things... perhaps anything.

We can easily see that small children are naturally connected to a unified reality. We gradually ‘learn’ how to forget this and so enter a restrictive world which functions by virtue of us staying afraid and asleep.

For way too long we have been trapped in an ultra-serious, linear tunnel: more or less everything is a slave to convention.

I feel it’s time for us to explore the ‘impossible’, because a life in service to what we’re told is possible sends us back to providence unopened.
