About Primetime Princess
1. Why write this book now?
I wrote “Primetime Princess” because I had a story to tell. I hope readers find it funny, maddening, inspiring and hopeful. Women who work in an overwhelmingly male environment have a tough time adapting to, and participating in that culture. This is a story about a woman who is determined to break through the glass ceiling despite insurmountable odds.
2. What’s your proudest achievement in the biz? Fav development?
The movies and miniseries I oversaw at NBC often dealt with issues affecting young women. They were probably my proudest achievement. Those movies were entertaining on one level, but often carried an important message. The fact that movies like, “A Woman of Independent Means,” “Serving in Silence,” and others – which still runs on Lifetime now – shows that those issues are timeless and impacting yet another generation of young women.
3. Why should people read this book? Who is the target audience?
Women. I think working women in particular, will identify with Alexa's plight. No matter where a woman works, there will always be a “Jerry” in her life.
4. Advice for people wanting to get into the industry?
If you participated in and enjoyed hellweek in college you’ll do well in the industry. In show business it’s called paying your dues. The stronger you are, the more tenacious you are, the more likely you’ll get to the top. Invest in a suit of armor. Or a straitjacket.
5. What do you think of the recent Upfronts? Any shows you are looking forward to? Any predictions on which you anticipate to flop?
Other people get paid to worry about these things now. I’m looking forward to the next season of “Downton Abbey” and I love “House Hunters International.”
6. What are your fav shows of all time and on-air now?
“Listen Up.” The sitcom I produced for CBS starring Jason Alexander that lasted one entire season. I’m sure you remember it!
7. Any plans to make this into a sitcom? Or take it to the screen?
Stay tuned….
8. Will there be a sequel?
I’ll rely on the readers to tell me. There are certainly more adventures in store for Alexa and her pals. And then, of course, there’s Jerry…Please let me know your thoughts!!
