Arthurian Legends

I am a great fan of the Arthurian legends and really enjoyed reading the 21 Lessons of Merlin. I love the meat and potatoes of the magical world and enjoy reading books that are written by authors who actually know and live what they write about. The Merlin series that just ended here in the states was one of my favorite series on SYFY. Booooo that it ended and yes I am one of the 9000 people who joined the FB campaign to bring it back.
Since I am a horse woman I always find myself wondering about the horses when watching these series. Could be why when I write, it is like Walter Farley meets J.R.R. Tolkien; Black Stallion meets Lord of the Rings.
I am not a fan of Urban fantasy, I am old school, so I typically look for the traditional fantasy stories. I just stumbled upon Mary Stewarts, Crystal Cave trilogy and have ordered all three! I think there are more since this one started 30 years ago.
Has any of my friends read any of her books? I think those of you in the UK might have.I am so excited to get them!
I do go to bed early just to read. Much more enjoyable than what is on TV now..especially since Merlin is done...
Happy Reading!

AJ You mean the BBC show Merlin? I've been meaning to watch it and have been slowly recording the episodes from the tv when they pop up. I can't wait to have them all to watch them all the way through. It looks pretty good. Did you ever see the tv show Legend of the Seeker? That one was really good. Another show based on books.

Denice Garrou Hey AJ! Yes that is the one! The first season was a little cheesie but after that it got real good..they got a little more serious. It is somewhat different than what we are used to in the way the legend has been told but it keeps you watching! I cried after the last episode..great character development and Merlin was my favorite character. Arthur really grew up on the series also. I will miss them. I believe there are 5 seasons. How time flies...
Did not see the Legend of the Seeker...but it sounds familiar...will have to check it out.I will let you know how I like the Crystal Cave series..that is a Merlin and Arthur series...You must read 21 Lessons of Merlyn by Douglas Moore...he is a Druid and you really get the "goods" on Merlin. He also wrote a second one The Lost Book of Pherylt (sp?) more Druid Lore...
Let me know how you like the Merlin series when you watch!

AJ *laugh* sometimes cheesy can be good. I've been slowly working my way through Arthurian Legends Its fun to dip in and read one of the stories then put it down again. (so many books so little time) I've always loved anything with myths and legends and now that I'm living in the UK I thought it would be a good idea to get to know some of them better.

Denice Garrou I hear ya...I love to read and it really takes my writing time away! Oh, you just moved to the UK? Where from? Do you like it there? Always wanted to see it.

AJ Yep I'm an American. I used to live in Colorado but moved here 4 years or so ago to get married. The UK can be a great place and I love Northern England but unfortunately we live in the south and everything is very close together. I miss having a lot of space and I haven't been back home since I moved so I'm a bit homesick. You should visit if you get a chance. I still love to go see all the castles gardens and manor houses and there are some really iconic things that are fun to see (red buses, black cabs, red post boxes and red telephone booths)
