Prequel to Dragonhorse
Writing and marketing coupled together with painful scoliosis can and is a daunting task! This morning once again I must sit at the computer with a dagger in my back (my scoliosis) and create. But I will push on and prevail just as I always have my whole life. It is the same as performing magic...no matter the outcome you must push on and practice your craft. Practice does make perfect and you learn a whole heck of a lot on the way; remember in Dragonhorse Shion must learn that the journey is the best part.
This reminds me of when I was a wee child probably about the age of 10. I and my constant companion Kelly, wanted to be wildlife healers. We were young, and full of compassion for every crawling, creeping, flying, running, being on our earth. This was when I just knew I had a mission in life but at that time thought it was only to heal animals.
I remember our first patient. Kelly and I were enjoying the end of a downpour that had flooded the streets with bath like water. We noticed a worm--yes I said worm, the lowliest of the beings on our planet; anyway this poor little worm must have tumbled along the sides of the street and gotten beaten nearly to death! Well, we just had to save the little fellow, and proceeded to wrap him in a band-aid. The wiggly little bugger was having none of it, and crawled right out of our careful and loving administrations.
How many of us today would do such a thing? Most of us not. We loose that part of ourselves after our "rights of passage" into adulthood. We loose the magic of our lives! How sad don't you think?
So, this is why I write. It keeps me connected to that time in my life;keeps me connected to my enchanted realm. What keeps you connected to your enchanted realm?
Oh, and I might add I was a HUGE Merlin fan; the SYFY series that just ended. That was my Friday night connection to my enchanted realm, and I was and am so sad to see it end.
So, what to do, what to do? The ending of Merlin has now opened the way to the beginning of another chapter to the world of Dragonhorse. Yes, I have started the prequel! The prequel will answer all of the why's and whats of what Shion and her allies had to endure and conquer. We go back to another time-to the beginning. I will keep you posted...Dragonhorse and Seeker of the Forgotten Knowledge

Midsummers Eve is arriving!
They say write what you know...
I write fantasy and I KNOW fantasy because I studied, learned, live and love it. It is not that I haven't ever grown up...it is that I have never lost that connection to what we had as a child, before ADULT LIFE intervened.
Since Midsummers Eve is approaching, I thought I might tell you about one of my circle celebrations about 6 years ago. It was my turn to do the ceremony and I decided to write a "journey" and take everyone in our coven to meet each elemental of the 4 directions. The Sylph in the East, the Salamander in the South, the Undine in the West, and the Gnome in the North. For those of you who don't already know; Midsummers Eve is when the veil between the worlds of man and fae are the thinnest.
I had a perfect spot to hold the celebration...it was a hidden valley in the center of my land. Ancient, towering pines stood watch in a perfect circle around my "circle". I collected antique jars and put a tea light in each one and hung them in the surrounding trees to light the way for the fae folk I wished to invite.
Everyone arrived and we proceeded to the sacred spot and did our usual circle casting etc. Everyone had settled in and I lead them in the journey to reconnect with the fae or faerie folk. The journey was going well in the still of the night, lit only by my many lanterns twinkling sweetly. But suddenly something changed, it was the air around us. It became alive and electric and produced a very intimidating humming sound or what we all described later as a buzzing or flapping of many, many tiny wings! WE ALL heard it! Now mind you, the circle was full of seasoned witches, unafraid with a tough ass mind set...so we thought.
As the buzzing noise got closer and became louder I could feel the energy of the circle change to panic! Some tough witches we were! lol! Since I was the priestess of the night it was up to me to change the energy and I quickly reminded everyone that we were in a protected circle and nothing could get in. With that, the noise subsided, WITH a few sighs of relief I might add.
Was it the fae folk that had come according to our bidding? I say "Just Believe". And remember, when dealing with the other dimensions, please take the necessary precautions and KNOW what you are doing.

Colorado Fires burning all around us
I have been glued to the TV. We got close to having to evacuate since I only live about 15 miles from where the Royal Gorge fire is still ravenously burning ... after 3 days! It left the bridge across the gorge but took all the amusement buildings (20) around it...The buildings burned but the zoo animals we left unscathed to everyone's amazement!
The fire is only 20% contained. Canon City is a prison town and they had to evacuate almost 900 inmates from one of the 3 prisons.
The Black Forest fire closer to Colorado Springs is taking houses right and left...and sadly the houses that were spared with the first go'round are now being consumed by the change in direction. Pictures of horses running loose all over FB..people were at work when it hit and some were not allowed in to get their belongings..that's how bad that fire is burning. The Black Forest is miles and miles of ancient Pine trees, perfect food for the fiery breath of Mother Earth. Six fires burning around Colorado! How can I possible write!

Why do you read fantasy-scifi?
For me writing fantasy is more than taking a year and plotting out a good story.
I do not like the term "fantasy" because what I write is not necessarily made up.
Not all of it anyway. For those of you who read fantasy must ask yourself why? What draws you to it. Is it a wish to live in a different world? Is it the inner quest for knowledge and power? Or could it be something much deeper?
Is it with out actually knowing, a way to recapture something that once was a part of you. Something you lived before, instilled in your cell memory. Reading fantasy helps to keep you somewhat sated and connected to that hidden truth, but it is never enough...it keeps you reaching for that next book hoping some message or character in there will resonate with you; give you that "Ah Ha" moment.
I write fantasy because I must. This is my path in life; (even though I have tried to ignore it) to reach others with my written word. My writing is about the hidden truths to the world, hidden and made into riddle and rhyme waiting for those of you who read to resonate and awaken and go "AH HA", I do know what she is talking about. To awaken you to the true magic and power to do good, that is within yourself. My story is not just a "story" I challenge you to find the hidden truth. And if you don't get what I am writing about, that is fine...you are not ready yet. Someone once told me I would be a great teacher; maybe this is how I am to teach. Coming in the back door so to speak.

Arthurian Legends
I am a great fan of the Arthurian legends and really enjoyed reading the 21 Lessons of Merlin. I love the meat and potatoes of the magical world and enjoy reading books that are written by authors who actually know and live what they write about. The Merlin series that just ended here in the states was one of my favorite series on SYFY. Booooo that it ended and yes I am one of the 9000 people who joined the FB campaign to bring it back.
Since I am a horse woman I always find myself wondering about the horses when watching these series. Could be why when I write, it is like Walter Farley meets J.R.R. Tolkien; Black Stallion meets Lord of the Rings.
I am not a fan of Urban fantasy, I am old school, so I typically look for the traditional fantasy stories. I just stumbled upon Mary Stewarts, Crystal Cave trilogy and have ordered all three! I think there are more since this one started 30 years ago.
Has any of my friends read any of her books? I think those of you in the UK might have.I am so excited to get them!
I do go to bed early just to read. Much more enjoyable than what is on TV now..especially since Merlin is done...
Happy Reading!

60 Second Pitch for my book!
Hi friends,
So was at a meeting and we discussed shortening our book pitches down to 60 seconds! Now mind you my book is over 300 pages with a big plot and several messages. My synopsis was 30 pages long!
So here goes my 60 second pitch more or less...Oh, and I will be at Tattered Book Cover in Denver, Colorado Saturday giving it if anyone is in the area.
Dragonhorse is written as a fantasy, but not just any fantasy;this one is a little different since it is based on my experiences studying magic, healing arts and having a love and respect for horses. As the cowardly lion said on Wizard of Oz, "I do believe in witches!"
I like to say it is "Lord of the Rings" meets "The Black Stallion" with a little "Pillars of the Earth" mixed in.
If I had to pick a genre it would be YA but all ages are enjoying it.
Dragonhorse is set during ancient earth about an orphaned girl groomed many lifetimes for one purpose;to ensure Earth's great shift. (sound familiar 2012'ers)
Her time has come and she is awakened by a wizard from her distant past who sets her on a harrowing journey to uncover dark secrets and relearn forbidden magic. She will find love in the most unusual beings and will have to pass many tests and challenges which will bring her to the very brink of death and back.
Now I have to practice and memorize this! I am not very good at impromptu pitches..LOL!
