I have to say I find it difficult to argue against the points Spielberg and Lucas make. And that Hollywood is fighting any and all change tooth and nail is not helping.
At the same time, like you, I do enjoy the big screen experience. I don't go every week, but every couple-few for certain.
It seems to me that Hollywood could cut down on a lot of costs too. After all, it's clear that it is possible to make a good action or scifi movie without dropping $150 million+ or anything close to it. Sure, the F/X my not be state of the art and you will not have 3-4 A-list actors, but is all that really necessary? It doesn't seem to be.
I was just reading an article on Yahoo News that tied the horrible opening of The Lone Ranger film back to Lucas and Spielberg's comments. Maybe this will all turn out similar to the era of the big studio system collapsing back in the 1970s.
