Untitled Poem

My auntie has Alzheimer’s and I was thinking of her when I wrote this:

I hold on to your memories
As you’re no longer able
Your eyes are so empty
As I sit at your table
You say that you know me
But can’t say my name
The pictures in your mind
Fall down from their frame
You were back for a moment
But then you were gone
And now you are lost
Like a bird with no song
