Victim #10: Colette Saucier
Welcome, readers! Today, we have the fabulous Colette Saucier with her newest novel, Alicia’s Possession. Let me say first that I am not your typical suspense/romance reader. But, Alicia’s Possession has opened me up to a whole new genre! I was riveted from the first page. Set primarily on a lake house in the South, Detective Mason responds to Alicia’s call having overheard a gunshot across the water in the early morning hours. Convinced she has witnessed a murder, Mason is ensnared in a mystery with far too many loose ends for everything to be "as it seems." Even more so, he's ensnared by the sensual woman at the center of it all.
I pride myself on figuring out mysteries quickly, but this one kept me guessing till the very end, which made me a very happy reader. And the romance is HOT! Trust me when I tell you, this is a must-read! Let's hear what Colette has to say.
THE AUTHOR:1) Your favorite vacation spot and why? Although I do LOVE to go to the beach (particularly Destin), my favorite vacation destination is Amsterdam. The city is beautiful and so small we can walk it from end to end. Plus, it is conveniently located to Belgium, which must be the best-kept secret in Europe, and it is a lovely ferry-ride over to England. Also, Amsterdam has some other recreational benefits as well, which are probably best left for another discussion…
2) Three must-haves while sitting on the beach (if you were to have this luxury this summer)? iPod, light reading, and pineapple juice mixed with coconut rum
3) Where you live and who lives with you?Southeast Louisiana with my husband and our two dogs.
4) The best thing about where you live? The food.
5) The worst thing about where you live? I’m going to say the heat and humidity.
6) Currently your favorite author and why?I think it is and ever shall be William Shakespeare. His plays are so rich, I find something new each time I see or read one of them again.
7) Quote by your favorite author of all-time? He has so many, it’s hard to choose one! Here are three from scores: “Love sought is good, but given unsought, is better.” “No legacy is so rich as honesty.” “To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.”[I KNEW we were kindred spirits. LOVE my Shakespeare!--Stephanie]
THE BOOK:1) Name of the main character and three adjectives to describe him/her?

2) If your main character could be any season—Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter—what would he/she be? Why? I will say Alicia is winter because of her depression and loneliness.
3) Name of the villain or antagonist in your story and three words to describe him/her? I refuse to name the villain since it is something of a mystery. I’ll say: Cunning, duplicitous, sociopathic.
4) If your hero were a summer element (a tidal wave, blistering heat, summer storm, or balmy breeze), what would he/she be and why? I think Mason is a welcome balmy breeze to bring warmth and comfort to Alicia’s cold winter life.
5) If your heroine were any flavor ice-cream, what would she be and why?Pralines and cream because she’s sweet, Southern, rich, 6) Describe the main plot of your story in one sentence. After recovering from a freak car crash that put her in a coma for two months and left her with no memory of the accident, a wealthy socialite becomes convinced there is a connection between the seemingly mysterious disappearance of her neighbor and a series of bizarre things happening inside her own house; but everyone, including the detective called to investigate the neighbor's disappearance, thinks the woman's head injury has left her unable to distinguish reality from fantasy.
7) The best theme of your story? Sometimes giving up control can be the most liberating experience of all.
8) One of your favorite sentences in your book? I have no favorite sentences because I follow Faulkner’s advice and kill my darlings.
9) One thing you’d like readers to know about the world you created or the characters in them? Although this is a romantic suspense, that’s just the beginning. Because this is my first time dipping into the world of (extremely light) Dominance and Submission, the characters had to be completely believable. Mason had to be a truly decent man who sees that this vulnerable woman needs someone to take care of her. Alicia had to have a history that had caused her not to be able to trust anyone and then I had to place her in a situation so desperate she would be willing to surrender control completely. I hope I have succeeded in bringing these characters to life.
Yes, Colette! You definitely have! This was such a great read and I highly recommend it to all readers seeking a thrill-ride of suspense and some wicked romance. ;)
