Writng a New Novel - Day One
Okay, so Day One is done.
The plan when I started out this morning was to write two scenes, because my scenes tend to run between 1500 and 2000 words on average so that would give me my 3k+ goal. I wrote all of one scene and about 95% of the other one, making my total word count 4200 for today.
Here's how it played out.
I started working at 10:00 this morning and worked through until 6pm tonight.
The first scene was a breeze because I knew exactly in my mind what I wanted to happen and what needed to be written and so I blasted through it in three hours writing 2500 words by 1:00 pm.
I stopped for lunch and to run some errands.
I returned to work at 2pm and worked straight through until 6.
My second scene didn't go nearly as smoothly. In those four hours I only wrote 1700 words. The reason was because the scene was not fully imagined in my head. I spent a good two hours searching/researching for the right character-situation that I needed for the scene, for someone to go up against Grace. This was not a major character but a one-shot, yet he needed to be fleshed out and a worthy opponent for Grace. In the end I found it and I'm happy with it.
So that was it 4200 words on day one. That's a seven hour day, plus a one hour lunch break, with three doggie walks so my little guy got exercise and potty breaks.
Comments and encouraging words welcome. I'll be back tomorrow.
