Q and A

Well I received a bunch of questions this week from fans, and decided to do a post and answer  them. I will do this again in a few weeks in case you missed your chance to ask me something. So by all means ask away and I will save them up until I have enough to do another post.

Q-Who are your favourite authors?

A-I have always been a big fan of R.A. Salvatore, his detailed fighting style and characters have been inspirational. David Gemmell (RIP) and his detailed plots and memorizing/ unique characters have always fascinated me. Alan Campbell’s writing style and depth and level of detail in his worlds in breath taking and I could only hope to reach that level one day.

Q-How do you set up your books? Do you plot them out or just write and see what happens?

A-Good question, it’s really a bit of both. The False Prince I wrote a chapter by chapter synopsis for what I wanted, by the end a lot of it changed, but I had a general direction I was going for. Unforgivable 1 was similar as I had it plotted out. Unforgivable 2 on the other hand I just wrote, Sofia’s story grew within me as it grew on the pages, I had no idea what was going to happen from the top of the page to the bottom. It was very exciting. Brothers of Blood (squeal to The False Prince) I plotted the first 6 chapters, after that I just went with it. I have found the books I am writing now I plot less and just let the story grow, and as I write the plot grows and I just go back and add things and scenes where needed. It seems to be working well.

Q-How many books on the go do you have at once?

A-(laughs) Honestly I have 9 on the go, my laptop always has 3 to 5 books open on it at any given time that I jump back and forth from. How I don’t confuse stories? Couldn’t tell you, my head is crazy.

Q-What is one thing you need to work on more as a writer?

A-Grammar hands down. I am getting better, but still it is a weak point of mine, I am lucky to have a good editor and beta readers to catch my foolish mistakes. Like vile/vial then/than starred/stared silly things… I suck.

Q-Have you always wanted to be a writer? When did you start?

A-I started writing horrible poetry when I was 13… horrible angst stuff. I grew up in a broken home with a lot of demons floating around. It came out in my writing. When I turned 17 I more or less forgot poetry and started with short stories and getting serious about improving my skills. No I can’t say I always wanted to be a writer in terms of career wise, but now yes I would love nothing more.

Q-Do you ever worry about running out of new good ideas?

A-I use to, but every time I do 3 more pop into my head. Honestly I have a folder of book/short stories ideas, there are 64 ideas I haven’t touched in there. I have enough to keep me busy and to keep my fans reading.

Q-When you write a new book what is your main goals?

A-My main goal is to make that book better than anything I have written prior. To do the characters I create justice and to bring out emotion in my readers. Nothing lifts my heart more then when a fan tells me they cried at a certain part, or yelled angrily at the book or felt like they lost a friend when someone dies. That is my main goal.

Q-What made you decided to branch off from Fantasy/fiction/horror to erotica?

A-As a writer I don’t like to label myself to any one thing. When I first started writing had you asked me if I would write erotica, I likely would have said no. But thankfully that isn’t the case. Some of the stories that came to me have been good, but needed a higher sexual element to be able to make them worthy of writing. So I decided to give it a try and I am glad I did.
