Leslie Austin BANG! BANG! BANG! The pounding on the door is unmistakable. It reverberates down the stairs and into my frozen brain. It has to be him. He is trying to trick me again. Even knowing his intentions, I creep slowly up the creaky stairs.
It is the middle of the day, and this paranormal identity is still spirited. It has gotten more active in the last couple of days, which has driven me from my house and into the wine cellar. I hoped; no prayed that he would leave me be.
I want to yell at him to go away, but my voice is no where to be found. My legs are weak and brain fogged from the lack of sleep. He is winning the battle for my sanity, but I haven't given up just yet. I have one more trick up my sleeve to play.
I am so close now I can feel his icy presence. Goose bumps rise, and a chill runs down my spine!
BANG! BANG! BANG!
My stomach jumps into my throat and heart pounds out of my chest. Fear controls every part of me, especially my legs, as I run back down the stairs and cower in the far corner. Shivering, I can't stop thinking about what he will do to me.
I regain some composure and remember my plan. It has to work because it is my only chance to regain my life back. Out of the corner of my blustery eyes, I see a shadow figure cast from outside the dirty glass.
BANG! BANG! "Are you down there?" It is my husband's voice. He must have come home early from his business trip. "Here I am! Thank goodness you came back."
I run up the stairs with light legs and a relieved heart. I fling open the door and am blinded by the brightness of the day. As my eyes adjust I see no one and feel my mistake.
The apparition's electrically charged hand violently shoves me. I tumble head over heals down the stairs and realize he has indeed tricked me.
My head strikes the Ouija board, I had planned to use to free his spirit, and his evil voice rings true. "Demons like feeble minds!"
I wake some hours later with a pool of blood around my head. I try to move but paralysis controls my body. I see my husband standing over me. I knew he had been cheating on me but never realized would resort to murder.
He is on the cell phone with 911. "Help, me please! There has been a horrible accident to my wife. She has fallen down the stairs and is bleeding."
He hangs up the phone and whispers. "I am so sorry for everything I have done to you. The ambulance is on its way. Just hang in there baby."
Just before I pass out, I hear the demon that is lying on the ceiling, whisper. "It will only get worse if you tell!"
