Butterfly bush.
Hello boys and girls. It certainly is a lovely day and I, Harry Toews, have been outside spending time with Mother Nature. Sophia and Matteo helped me plant a butterfly bush. Have you ever seen one of those plants? They grow really fast and the long shoots holding flowers can reach 6 to 8 feet tall. Butterflies love the fruity scent of the flowers which are called panicles. All summer long, hundreds of butterflies gather to sip nectar and rest from their long journey to or from somewhere exotic.
You can plant a butterfly bush also. Get your parents to help. Even if you don’t have a garden, the plant grows well in a container. Recycle a five gallon bucket or other large container, place the butterfly bush in potting soil, keep it watered and watch it grow. Keep a camera handy so you can take pictures of the butterflies.
You might even attract a hairy butterfly. Those are my favorite of course. I took a photo of one once during my travels. They are often found in Bohemia which is located in the Czech Republic. This is an ancient part of the world and was once a kingdom and part of the great and powerful Roman Empire.
The United States has several varieties of the hairy butterfly, not to be confused with moths which are commonly hairy. I wonder if they also have hairy toes. You know I would really like that.
Have you had a chance to read my book yet? It is called Chasing Butterflies and is one reason that I love the beautiful little insects. In the book, Sophia and Matteo learn all about butterflies and also discover many reasons to keep an open mind about all creatures. Like you and I, they learn Little Life Lessons. Come on over and check out my website. Here is a link to follow http://www.littlelifelessons.ca
Until next time, I remain your friend Harry Toews.
