Music for the Redhead…

So many of you have emailed me about the soundtrack for The Unidentified Redhead, I thought you might get a kick out of the thought process behind the song choices. I thought I would go through each chapter and talk about each song, and how I see the music as it might play in each scene. Make sense? Well, hopefully it will.

You will be peeking inside my brain, so caution, it gets silly in here. And a little spicy. But we like spicy, right? Away we go…

Chapter 1:

Jane Says/Jane’s Addiction

I am a huge fan of Jane’s Addiction, and it seems like when I think back on every mix tape that I made in the 90’s, this song was on it. It always seemed to make its way into the stereo when my girlfriends and I were getting ready for a night out on the town. This song brings me back to fun and silly and the promise of wonderful things in the future. Since the relationship between Grace and her best friend Holly was forged in college, this song would definitely be playing in the background while these two were getting ready for a party.

Chapter 2:

Set Adrift On Memory Bliss Of You/P.M.Dawn

God I love this song, and let me say again, God I love this song. This is another song that just seems to lend itself to good times, easy banter, and a killer view of downtown LA at night.

Ethylene/John Hiatt

I was introduced to John Hiatt when I myself was living in LA, and he quickly became part of my personal soundtrack. Even though Jack is solidly British, there is something about this song and the slight country edge to it, coupled with the quick back and forth that he and Grace fall into almost from the beginning, that this song lends itself to. In my mind, I can see Jack and Grace in Holly’s kitchen. Grace is leaning on the counter, Jack is leaning in towards her, perhaps peering under Grace’s curls as they fall around her. They grin, they laugh, they flirt shamelessly, and this song could easily be playing in the background. Again, in my mind…

I will be checking in again in a few days to give you some more musical musings, and very soon I will be able to show you the long awaited trailer for The Unidentified Redhead. In the meantime, drop me a line at alice@aliceclayton.com and let me know you’re ready to join the Nuts Girls!
