Honour by M.B. Feeney
The world is filled with people destined to help and to serve. Doctors, nurses, police, and firefighters--each and every day, these special people work to help others in times of need. Often, this means putting their own lives at risk in order to do their jobs. They give of themselves to benefit society, and they do it without any expectation of thanks. And then there is the military...These are the men and women who don't head home to their families and safe homes to relax at the end of a shift. They are on the front lines, far from home and often fighting someone else's battles because it is the right thing to do. Military families struggle to cope with the constant worry and the long periods of separation, staying strong to support those who serve in everything they do, and often are left to pick up the pieces when the highest price is paid.Service men and women are heroes in the purest sense of the word. Even when the world's gone mad and their hearts are breaking, one thing remains unchanged. They have honour.

A Review of Honour
Hi, welcome to my website. If you've never been here before: we are a military family. If you have a problem with this, you are more than welcome to discontinue reading, but if you made it past the description of Honour, I have to believe you're in this for the long haul. This novella hit and it hit hard. It's composed of several short stories, "Honour," "Deserter," "Silence is Deafening," "Letters to No One," "Night Terrors," and "Welcome Home." Before you start, let me warn you, even if you're not a crier, have a box of tissues handy. Nobody thought to inform me of this beforehand, and there is a blanket now sopping wet on our couch. Not only do these stories give you an insight to what it's like for the soldiers, but it lets you into the lives of those family members who are left behind. Managing the "home front" so-to-speak, and while I know Feeney's anthology hit me harder than it would a non-military family, the extreme emotions that it elicits from the reader are undeniable. I'm not even sure which of these was my favorite, but just wow. I think the one that may have hit the most home for me and our family was "Letters to No One." My husband is home safe and sound, and I thank God daily for that; however, there are so many soldiers who don't make it home. This is addressed on my website at the very least once a year, and if you haven't noticed, don't worry, you'll see it again soon enough. That tangent aside, I just... I can't even explain what this novel did to me. Feeney's latest solo will take you through such a range of emotions, and leave you absolutely speechless at the end. I can't get in to much more than that, but this is something, especially if you have no experience with the military, that you need to read.If you haven't picked up a copy of this yet, go get one. Now, go, go, go. Links are below, just go do it.
This would also make the perfect gift for a military family in your life with the holidays right around the corner!
