With the release date of Bound by Sacrifice only weeks away, (No I haven't set the EXACT date yet, I am new at this!) I wanted to do a little more than the normal excerpts most authors do. 
Music is a part of who I am. Understanding the words, being driven to move with the rhythm, the emotion in the vocal addition of a person to the instruments, or even the soft subtle way the instruments come together to form such a beautiful piece of art.

It doesn't make me special to say that I love music, because most people do. It is in the WAY I love it that makes me different. I am not the girl who digs for hours to find that new unique band or singer, I also don't obsess over the newest hits on the radio. I find myself drawn to some songs, yet hate the artist. I may know every word to a song and couldn't begin to tell you who performs it. I can't count how many times I have run across 'Hotel California' and stopped to sing my heart out to a classic song, then found 'Clarity' on the next station and did the same.

To put it simply, music is like breathing for me and writing has slowly become my air as well now that I am consumed in the world I am creating. I often hear songs and think parts of them describe exactly how my characters feel in a story. No song catches every event or emotion in my stories, but I thought it would be fun to show you a few of the feelings and emotions felt in Bound by Sacrifice through music. It was hard to find songs that left the 'rock' genre for this book because the 'feel' to BBS is a little dark, but I tried my best. So here goes!

Long Road to Ruin- Foo Fighters

HEY! That sounds familiar! Well, it should because BBS is part of the series titled: The Long Road to Ruin. Foo Fighters happens to be one of my favorite bands and this song really hit home for me when I started writing the series. The lyrics were an inspiration for the theme of the story. Acelynn is the heroine, a woman who made a deal with Satan to save her sister's soul from eternal damnation. Satan granted Acelynn immortality so that she could find his son and kill him. She feels hopeless, lonely, and lost after nearly 80 years of immortal life. Long Road to Ruin's lyrics seemed to portray this feeling …

Long road to ruin there in your eyes

Your horizon takes its shape

The search for Satan's son leads Acelynn to some people with answers that may help her finally find an end to her long, lonely life. One man in particular, an immortal, may be the only person capable of helping her free her sister's soul and her own life from this deal she made. However, the more she learns about him, the less she wants her life to be over. He eases some of the darkness around her and for the first time in decades, she can see hope and happiness in her future. 
Rise Against- The Good Left Undone catches the emotion behind this part of the story so well.

A heart can be a dangerous thing when it is torn between a happy future filled with promise and a love for the family you are leaving behind. Acelynn has tough choices to make and freedom isn't so easy when you are dealing with the Devil. And she keeps returning to the same dismal conclusion when she tries to see a better tomorrow because she doesn't feel like she is worthy of hope. A song that touches on the lack of self worth that is similar to Acelynn's is 
Linkin Park- No Roads Left.
When did I lose my sense of purpose?
Can I regain what's lost inside?
Why do I feel like I deserve this?
Why does my pain look like my pride?


In my fear and flaws
I let myself down again

On her journey, Acelynn learns about the woman she should have been. The woman she would have been if fate had been kinder and Satan never slithered across her and her sister's path. She learns about a world full of legends and a past that was ripped away from her. Acelynn isn't just some girl the Devil chose to toy with and as her journey continues she will find out exactly why she is so important. Learning about who she may have been can't change the person she will always be. Acelynn is the girl who gives without expecting back in return. She is the girl who sacrifices for the people she loves.
Red Jumpsuit Apparatus: Your Guardian Angel, conveys the type of person Acelynn is.

If I could leave you with one song to ponder over, it would be Sara Bareilles: Breathe Again. I won't post the words that specifically describe parts of the book because this song just fits perfectly. Once you have read Bound by Sacrifice in its entirety you will understand the simple and hidden meaning behind why this song replays in my head every time I read BBS.
