Yeah, those. The covers of books. How important are they anyway? Do they have to convey exactly what the book is about? Or is it enough that they are close? Does it matter if the heroine on the cover has green eyes and dark hair, but inside she morphs into a blue-eyed blonde? Does it bug anyone else?

I am highly concerned over the covers of my books. Photoshop is getting easier for people to use, or they are getting more used to using it. When I first started with electronic books, the covers didn't have much range. Now? Some of the covers I see in small press are amazing.

So, what does this mean to me?

All of my books got a remake. A do over. New covers. And I had a huge say in how they looked. Ok, almost the entire say in how they looked. :) I'm happy about that. I love dinking around with Photoshop Elements. I don't know how to really make it work for me, so I mostly work for it, but hey, it's fun and I like what I do.

I search for the images, do a mock-up, then send it all to the cover artist so she can work her magic and actually create the book cover. I really want to learn how to do the whole thing myself, but there is only so much time in the day.

So, anyone out there - do covers make that much of a difference in how you select a book?
