My Book and why I wrote it!
Description:
"Zoe the Zookeeper" is a short and fun childrens story book. It has been carefully written and illustrated in such a way to appeal to new borns and older children who are starting to read.
Target Market.
"Zoe the Zookeeper ‘s" ideal readers are parents with children from newborn to 6 years old, who love sitting down to read and enjoy fun short stories with their young family.
Ever since I wrote "Zoe The Zookeeper" I have been asked why it was illustrated in black and white and why it is repetitive, these steps were carefully thought through!
This approach was to abridge a gap between many of the colour books on the market and black and white picture cards that are aimed at newborns.
Research shows that new born babies spend their early months of life seeing in black and white and shades of grey. When my wife and I were expecting our first child it seemed most, if not all of the books we were gathering were full of colours and therefore not great to read with our baby. I wanted to make the book crossover and appeal to both newborns and older kids at the same time. So this led me to keep illustrations in the book very simple in black and white, but chose to do the cover in colour.
I decided to write the book in a simple repetitive manner, much like the best loved books for young ones such as Brown bear, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, 5 Little Monkeys Jumping On The Bed and Good Night Moon (all a big hit with my children). Research has shown that reading repetitive books with infants and toddlers is a great way to entice them into using language with you, so this was the perfect way for me to appeal to toddlers and infants too.
I hope anybody who has purchased the book has enjoyed reading it with their young family!
