‘Of Love, Fear, and Hope’ is a novel written as an autobiographical narrative of Lazier Zovien, an orphan lad who finds hope in a prison cell, where he is enamored by Ayena, a beautiful girl who visits him while working on a ‘Center of Rehabilitation’ assignment. He escapes prison, swims across a river, with destiny leading him towards Ayena- the girl of his dreams. He had stolen from her shop, and she steals his heart. The balance between the two thefts is not set, and a chase begins. He joins work at her shop, lives in a shed in her garden, and joins the same University that she does. He tries to befriend all her friends- except one- and works really hard at steering her away from all the guys who clobber around her. He gets mugged while returning home with his first pay, leading him to end the chase and make an honest attempt towards Ayena. She had never been his, yet he always feared losing her. He realises that all his desperate attempts of the past don’t guarantee success. She rejects his proposal, thereby rendering him into a sober being, leading him to reflect on life and happiness. He finds his sister whom he had no idea about, and begins a new chapter in his life. He loses his desire to impress girls, and waits to be ‘loved’ rather than trying to ‘love’. He begins to value a cute girl, Jaelyn, whom he had never paid attention to, except during a practical session where he was keen on impressing Ayena’s contacts. The story takes a new turn, with him getting Ayena back- almost- until a new destiny is written. Jaelyn reveals that Ayena had loved him, but wanted to make it easy for him since she was going to die of lymphoblastic leukemia. Ayena promises that Jaelyn would always be his, inspiring him to ‘take good care of her’. Lazier regrets all the lost opportunities, where he could have expressed his feelings. He decides not to make the same mistake twice, and proposes to Jaelyn. He begins life afresh with his cute wife, whose chase ends as she embraces him.
