2013

This is a first; a blog posting. Up until now I do not believe that I have ever knowingly read a blog. Still unsure as to what 'blog' means. But I have been told that it is internet postings that represent the time and tides of the author. I have much experience with the passing of time and the rise and fall of tides, so here I am.

As to 2013, this lowly ebb of the cultural sea, I have had triumphs and trials, all in their respective times, but find my self growing disaffected by governments and disinterested in cultures - the feeling being that the ubiquitous representations of both are degenerative in nature and disquieting in spirit. I sense that neither as I currently experience them are natural, and should not be encouraged or actively supported. So I do neither. There must be a better way. Thankfully, the end is suddenly near. For me, 'year end' always comes as a surprise, which is unacceptably weird, since it falls on the same date each go round.

But this year, this 2013, has streaked passed me with some aggressively pointed verve and left me slightly scattered but still afloat; I think, only out of disinterest. The whole of the year, though occupied for the most part in both hard work and self-indulgence, has not brought the satisfaction I would have expected, and is ending much too soon to be as productive as I would have liked. However, end it must.

I do not wish to have any more of it than I currently do, so I wish it to end and let us start a new beginning in 2014. If 2013 represents a low from which to rise, then 2014 must, in its turn, represent the rising of the tide. I believe it is so. To paraphrase JFK, a rising tide will lift all boats, including my own, as long as I have a boat in the water. And, I do.

Out of long-dampened ambition, and brightening circumstance I dedicate more of my time and remaining years to writing, and cast myself upon the hopeful rising waters into a sea of authorship. My boat is afloat and I will steer a course in uncharted waters that is challenging, rewarding and engaging. I hope some who read this may elect to ride along. I invite any who wish to add to the provender of this journey by comment or critique to do so. And hope to offer companions a different ride over the waves than may have been available up to now, and possibly beguiling views of distant shores.
