Bad Gen Red Reviews

Lol! I'm so excited that the literary geniuses of the planet absolutely dispise a story I wrote with a full disclosure in the intro that I didn't have a clue about writing when I wrote it 20 years ago. It tells the story of my writing story. From the looks of it, it's giving them something to write more than 50 words about, so I guess I'm encouraging the writing process. It is curious to me how simple people like me seem to get it and have embraced it, but the intellectual appears to blow up at the audacity of someone who comes along just trying to figure the whole writing thing out. Is it that offensive that I actually did it without regard for perfection? Some have called it "ART." I certainly hope I don't turn into a literary monster once I do achieve some level of success. If I do, you can absolutely blast me for that! Have a Merry Christmas...everyone!
PS: And for those that are serious about researching me, read So... What About Love? and see if I've improved a bit!

James Sorensen Mr. Arrow, I don't know if this response is directed just at my review or if Annie C.(the person who only gave your book one star)is included. First off your sarcastic remarks don't make you a better writer. And please don't imbue my review with emotions that I did not state. I don't "dispise"(despise) your story. In fact I stated "I believe this story has a lot of potential but falls short of what it could have been." And I truly believe this but, it is your choice to write that book as I have no desire to do so. There is in fact a story to be told about the relationship between Native Americans and the so called windfall provided by "Indian" casinos. It has not all been joy and wonder!!!

Also, I'm not a "literary genius"(sarcasm?)but I am an avid reader, and having written Senior, upper level, class papers in college, I do know how well written books and paper are constructed. Yes Mr. Arrow, I did in fact read that you had written this book 20 years ago but I don't see how "Genocide Red"-"tells the story of my writing story."(Your words)

"the intellectual appears to blow up at the audacity of someone who comes along just trying to figure the whole writing thing out. Is it that offensive that I actually did it without regard for perfection? Some have called it "ART." (Again your words) I'm not an "intellectual"(more sarcasm?) and I simply wrote a review because the Goodreads First Read program asks those of us who win books to post one. And I was in no way offended by your book. I simply pointed out issues I felt might help you produce a better book. Annie C. in her review states she couldn't even finish your book.
However, the fact that you wrote this book 20 years ago doesn't change the facts of my review. What it actually means is that in 20 years you didn't care
enough about this book or your reading audience to go back and fix the problems. So I'm not really sure what your point is. You may have written it 20 years ago but the copy-write date is 2011 and it was published in 2013. Plenty of time to, at the very least, correct the spelling and grammar mistakes. Let alone fix the constant changing of Point-of-View.

By your own words Mr. Arrow you want to make a living doing this. Then shouldn't you show the people, that you want to buy your prouct, that you are capable of creating well produced stories? I'm not asking for "perfection" but I would at least expect a professionally edited book. And if you want to call this "ART" I'll defer to you. But to me calling it "ART" does not excuse what I read.

You are the CEO of Mega Arrow Press and want to help others find their potential as writers. Shouldn't you then set the standard of what excellent writing can be. When some aspiring young writer brings their first manuscript to you needing lots of work, are you just going to say "don't worry about it, the reader will understand that this confusing book is your first attempt." One last bit of advice, in two parts, if you really don't want honest reviews of your works then don't give them away free in a forum that asks the winners to review them. And, if you want to be a writer then I suggest you grow a little thicker skin. Even Lee Child, Robert Patterson, Stephen King, James Michener, Cormac McCarthy, Shakespeare ...... got critical reviews.

Learn from them and become a better writer. Build your skills in the craft that you say you want to make your living from. I encourage you, by all means, to continue to grow and improve. And I for one would love to see "Genocide Red" used as a platform to tell a story about the pain and lies that "Indian" casinos have perpetuated. It would open the eyes of the vast number of Americans that have NO CLUE!!!

Also tell Danielle, who ever she is, that I will be responding to her comments on Amazon. But first I'm going to re-read "Genocide Red" so that I can answer her rebuttal of my review.

And I really do mind the criticism as I feel it will help me do a better job of reviewing the books I read. I can only grow from the feed-back.

I wish you and your family all the best in 2014.

Dan Arrow Again, thank you for smoking the keys. You don't know me and my thick skin and I certainly don't know you and yours. I think we'd both enjoy sitting for coffee or tea sometime. I do appreciate the check list and have had a desire to build this story into something much larger since I scribbled the initial draft. My writing time is between 4:30 and 7am when I'm in the mode and I've gone back to regular work this year. I have two other manuscripts almost complete before I can turn my attention back to this important subject. When I've completed the draft I'll certainly ask if you have time to read through it before its release. Thank you, Dan

James Sorensen Your very welcome,
And believe me, my interest is very sincere. Look, I've never written a book or even made the attempt so I do commend you for your efforts. You've done more than I have. But, I do love to read. It is my avocation and I enjoy winning the First-Read books because it gives me a chance to experience new writers that I might never here about. That is why I really encourage you to write the full story of Genocide Red.

I like Dan, the protagonist, from your story. That is why I wanted to know more about him and the world he finds himself in. And that is why your story left me with so many unanswered questions. I want to know about Dan and why the Tribal elders, the Chief, were so angered by what he said. It is obvious that someone who trashes $1,000 suits and doesn't care if a $6,000,000 house burns down is someone worth knowing.
I know life often times interrupts our true desires but as soon as you finish your current projects I hope you'll tackle Dan's story. Thanks, Jim

Dan Arrow Will do. It's on my kick the bucket list! And just for encouragement, if you do have a book to write don't put it off. I've helped a few people get started this year that didn't make it to see it to fruition. I certainly don't desire to be that guy.
