How it all began…..
Just in case someone was interested in our story, I thought I would take a little time to share the history of Education Planning Partners and why this is such a dream come true for me. I share this largely because I am so excited, but also in hope that it just may inspire someone, somewhere to dream a little and reconnect with your passion…..
So back around 2005, I remember really starting to ponder what I was observing in the education system. Not from any sort of rigorous research, but just through interactions with students. I volunteered a lot, tutoring students and going back to my high school and college to talk to students about making the most of their education and how to prepare for the real world. I remember distinctly how so many students felt lost, sometimes defeated, lacked confidence, or just didn’t connect with the relevance of their education and how to be truly successful. I reflected on my own experiences and realized had it not been for my innately quizzical nature, there were a lot of things I wouldn’t have known, done, or experienced. I thought then and there that we could do better for our kids, but how?
That began a really interesting and challenging journey for me. I was working full-time, going to grad-school almost full-time and involved in a host of other things as well. Where did I even start? In my typical analytical fashion, I started researching. Books, magazines, newspapers, blogs, websites, you name it, anything that had to do with education or innovation, I was soaking it up! I talked to anyone and everyone I could about the education system and realized many people shared my concern. What started as a concern, developed into a full blown passion and before I knew it, I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I wanted to apply my skills and capabilities to this issue. I wanted to help students achieve to their fullest potential. I wanted to be part of the education reform movement. And that’s how it all began.
The next thing was to figure out a solution to some of these challenges. I’ll save that for the next post – so check back soon for Part II of my saga!
