Hearing the key slide into the deadbolt, Jane’s hand froze long enough for her ears to pick up the key moving the cylinder lock. By time the cam pulled in on the bolt and the front door opened, both hands were franticly racing to push the metal box and its contents under the bed.

“D is that you?”

Heart scurrying through the uncertainty of whether her foot had slide the box far enough under the bed, she waited for his slow and deliberately measured response.

Bit by bit the bedroom door opened sufficiently enough for Daman’s wide-ranging shoulders to be seen leaning on the doorframe, “Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.”
Jane incredulous expression managed to force out a half smile as she guardedly grabbed the collars of her bathrobe closer, straining to gauge the peril she was in. Trying to remember the three Black Widow’s golden rules for tight situations, she replayed each one in her head….
