Smash it!?
Okay. The boy is in trouble, and I'm sitting in my garage trying to put things in perspective as a hammer sits next to me, hoping to be my arm of righteousness in smashing the PS3. Should I smash it? Will that make a memory of a crazed unreasonable mother, planted in my son's head, for all of eternity? Do I care?! I'm tired of fighting this fight... Trying to keep my 11-yr old innocent, when even the freakin' M&M commercials reek of sex! It's candy, for God's sake! Do we really need a sexy brown female M&M oozing sensuality to promote candy?! Anyway, that's a different rant... This one is about the PS3. A game I have forbidden him to buy, play or watch was found hidden in his room (in his closet, behind a rack of clothes, in a tiny little hobbit-door that connects to the attic)--yep. I found it! Grand Theft Auto! Known to have sex, drugs and extra points for getting a hooker into the car and making the car 'Rock!' His friends (the twins) snuck it to him at school. And all last week, when I thought he was being good, up in his room--he was playing it!
These Mature-rated PS3 game(s) have been a battle for a year. He begs, I say no... Then he sneaks and buys it when his less-protective males in his life don't know any better... He brings it home... I take it back... Repeat.
Welp, this one flew under the radar, passed along the Underground Railroad like a thief in the night. What should I do? The horse has already left the barn, and is galloping full speed toward town, ahem... I mean, he's seen it all now. Should I forget about the thousand bucks invested in the system and games and beat it to a pulp with my hammer for taking my child's innocence?! I am at a loss. I can't get back his innocence... That's gone.
Anyone out there got any advice?
