Paula, great post (as always!). I'm a Howard fan, and though I've never read any of the Solomon Kane stories, I have The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane on my to-read shelf (and my BookMooch wishlist), so hopefully I'll get to it eventually. And I loved the Solomon Kane movie trailer you attached, too; I've never seen that movie, but if it ever comes to DVD, I'd really like to! From what I've heard in the Robert Howard fan group here on Goodreads, like the various Conan movies, it doesn't really follow any of REH's actual stories; but I'd be willing to take it on its own terms anyway.

Thanks, Werner. I hear from the fans that Solomon Kane's character has better likability than Conan. Of course the movie versions sensationalize the characters anyway.
For whatever it's worth, here's the link to the imdb description of the movie: www.imdb.com/title/tt0970452/ . (That's a site that usually has pretty full information on various movies.) I notice that this one is rated R for "violence throughout" (but not for bad language or sexual content). But while I don't like "pornography of violence" type treatments in film or literature, I can take some R-rated violence without a problem (the movie Rob Roy, which I really like, got an R rating for violence, too); it depends on how its handled and depicted. So I'd still be interested in giving this one a chance!
