One down two to go (well.. three if you count the Omnibus edition..)

I am delighted to finally be able to announce that The Arrival is now available in paperback!! I’ll be honest, I thought it would be easy. Wow was I wrong *lol*. Partially due to me been quite nitpicky and wanting this, the final version, as ‘perfect’ as possible. The frustrating part is that it will never ever be 100% perfect. There will always be a sentence I can redo or a minute mistake I’ve missed… *sigh* but at some point I have to declare it done.
The other part that took ages was just the general formatting, which when you include the wee glitches that Word has meant certain ‘easy’ tasks were anything but easy. Best example being page numbering. Each new chapter needs to start on the right (odd numbered page) and any blank page between chapters (occasionally needed to make a chapter start on an odd page) CANNOT have a number. In theory a simple solution utilizing section breaks etc, in reality a hair pullingly frustrating experience.
For anyone stuck fighting with Word in this manner, my solution was this. Save each chapter individually. Then use Adobe (or in my case, Foxit Phantom PDF – a cheap but awesome alternative) to piece the sections together and insert blank, numberless pages. Voila, problem solved.
Currently I’m rereading through the proof of book two and updating the copy of book three so to get the first print of that proofed. The cost of getting a proof out to me in a week is insane ($40NZ) when you consider the actual proof copy costs about $6NZ. But it needs to be done. Once I get all three books complete then I am putting together an Omnibus edition of the Trilogy, using a cover created by Dee, an amazing cover creator I found online. Keep your eyes open for this as when I get the ebook version of the Omnibus edition uploaded I will make it free for a select number of days (Kindle only).

So current status – The Arrival is DONE! I am having some bookplates created specially for the book so if you want a signed edition you can order a bookplate of your choice for $5. When the bookplates are available (still being created currently, you can see one below) I will send a bookplate free to anyone who posts a pic of themselves with their copy of The Arrival on their facebook page, linking it to the BirthRight page.

Sorry to have been out of touch for so long! Sometimes life as a moonlighting novelist gets crazy busy (we’re also attempting to house hunt at the moment, an interesting experience..) and I find it easier to make brief posts on my BirthRight page, but the blog tends to get ignored. Hope you are doing well!
Take care,Nic
