Twice As Good
I recently published my first book, Twice As Good, and have to admit that pressing the publish button was one of the hardest, but most thrilling things I have done. I felt sick to my stomach and can only compare it to the nervous energy one often feels right before a ride on a roller coaster. Which this entire experience has been!
I have always loved to read, living vicariously through the fictional lives other authors have written about. It is not uncommon for me to think about what I would do or say in similar situations, have a scene with unknown persons play through my mind during a song on the radio, give an interview to Oprah, etc… My imagination has never been the issue, but having the nerve to try to express to others the stories I envisioned was. About a year ago I decided to give it a try and am so happy that I did.
Through this process I have connected with some amazing authors and Betas (who could easily be authors with their brilliant summaries). I have been able to link to a group of authors that are beautiful writers, many of which have been influences to me. I am so thankful for everyone I have “met” so far!
Self-publishing is no joke – I wish I could say that pressing publish was the absolute hardest thing to do in this process, but I can’t. I am finding that marketing, promotion, and everything that comes with it is a full-time job. I have a newfound appreciation for all the authors out there who have chosen this path – it is not easy! This is not said to dissuade anyone from taking this route because I would encourage everyone with the dream to go for it. BUT, I will say be prepared – the writing is actually the easiest part. Or it was for me anyway.
Happy reading and writing!
