I’m truly not just saying this because I help create a monthly column in it, but FATE Magazine is harder to stop reading than any periodical I’ve ever encountered. If you haven’t heard of FATE, you’ve missed out on six decades of fascination and fun! Long before there were shows like Walking Dead and Paranormal Witness, there was FATE, the first-of-its-kind publication focused on in-depth coverage of mysterious and unexplained happenings. In fact, FATE is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year!

Among my favorite recent issues was one featuring an article about Psychic Pets, but FATE doesn’t just cover the topics of psychics and afterlife communicators. It has included articles about synchronicity, UFOs, unexplained events at sacred sites the world over, and topics that are too bizarre to even categorize.

To quote Fate’s Editor-in-Chief, Phyllis Galde, “FATE allows readers to think for themselves by providing them with stories that mainstream publications don’t dare touch. The truth is, reality does not conform to the neat and tidy box that many people would like to wedge it into. Our world is a bizarre and wondrous place and our universe is filled with mystery—it is teeming with the unknown. People are longing for something more than the mundane transactions of everyday existence. FATE feeds the soul’s appetite for the enigmatic, the esoteric, and the extraordinary.”

Founded at the dawn of the late 1940’s flying-saucer era, FATE has served to both validate and debunk the extraordinary experiences of otherwise ordinary people. And, call me old-fashioned, but what I like best about it is that the print version is compact enough to take in my purse and read any time. Unlike with TV shows about unexplained phenomena, it’s available at my convenience -- and yours, for that matter. You can check it out at: www.fatemag.com

Those of you who’ve read my book SOUL SENSING know I’m pretty cautious about the subject of ghost hunting. That said, you might be feeling brave enough to visit the occasional haunted house or Civil War battlefield. If you are, I cannot recommend Annie Wilder’s Haunted Tea Parties in Hastings, Minnesota enough! House_of_Spirits

This is:

A. Because I’ve checked it out, and, being a professional Medium, I can assure you it IS haunted.

And

B. Because you’ll find yourself in the hands of seasoned ghost specialist, Annie Wilder, as well as a protective resident spirit whom Annie refers to as “Leon.”

You’ll even have sage smoke wafted around you before leaving to make sure you don’t inadvertently take any ghost energy home with you!

During the 2-hour tour, Annie will not only take you through all the rooms of her late-1800s house with its many astral residents, but on a trip through time. With dowsing rods going crazy in some spooky corners and today’s Ghost Radar app spewing out words that can be eerily pertinent to Annie’s narration, you’ll be part of bridging the gaps between several families and generations.

I must admit I was too much of a wimp to go into the dirt-filled cave in the cellar or up into the attic. (You know me, I’m all about letting sleeping dogs lie when it comes to darker spirits.) But, if you’re more daring, make this a weekend outing for you and your friends. Annie’s amazing décor and the goodies from the local bakery that are served during the tea-party portion of the afternoon are, by themselves, worth the trip!

It's really an honor for me to introduce you to Trish & Rob MacGregor! You might have already heard of them, though, because their books have been selling nationally & internationally for years. Just as synchronicity is part of the language of our deceased loved ones, it also pops up a lot in our day-to-day lives.

Case in point, as I sat reading my daily horoscopes year after year in the famous Sydney Omarr Presents books, I could not have imagined that I would one day meet the authors of those words! But, four years ago, I had not only been put in contact with Trish & Rob MacGregor, but was having dinner with them in a restaurant in my home state of Minnesota! As synchronicity would have it, Rob MacGregor hailed from St. Paul, so getting to finally meet face-to-face easily came together for us. Here, for your enjoyment, is what these two superb writers have to say about their latest book:

In our newest book, The Synchronicity Highway: Exploring Coincidence, the Paranormal, & Alien Contact, we delve into the many facets of synchronicity – meaningful coincidence.

Synchronicity or meaningful coincidence can be one of those delightful little surprises the universe springs on you just to keep you on your toes, aware and mindful. Other times, it slams into you out of the blue, a coincidence so startling that you marvel at the odds. It can be a trickster or an ally, clarify and confirm, guide or warn, laugh at you or with you.

Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, who coined the term, first wrote about synchronicity in the introduction to Richard Wilhelm’s translation of the I Ching: The Chinese Book of Changes, published in 1949. In that introduction, he talked about how tossing three coins six times, could yield one or two of 64 hexagrams that provide a response to a question that enlightens or guides the questioner. He defined the phenomenon as the coming together of similar inner and outer events in a way that can’t be explained by cause and effect and is meaningful to the observer. In the case of a divination tool, such as the I Ching, the inner event is the question, the outer event is the toss of the coins and resulting hexagram.

But of course synchronicity typically unfolds naturally without any tools. A simple example: you’ve been thinking about a former friend, roommate, lover, someone you haven’t heard from in years. You log onto Facebook and find a friend request from that individual. Or you’re digging a grave for your cat that died, have the car radio on in the background, and Peter Gabriel’s song, Digging in the Dirt, comes on. Or you dream about a stranger and the next day, that person enters your life.

Jung lumped extra sensory perception under the broad umbrella of synchronicity. This stance is sometimes controversial. Some people feel that calling ESP an aspect of synchronicity suggests that accurate psychically obtained information is merely coincidental. But Jung was simply saying that telepathy, precognition, mediumship, clairvoyance and other psychic abilities work outside of cause or effect. In other words, if a psychic predicts that someone will receive a surprise sum of money and two days later, an unexpected check arrives in the mail, that’s an example of precognition. But it also fits under synchronicity because cause and effect weren’t involved. The psychic didn’t tell anyone to send a check to the client. So an inner experience – the psychic’s premonition– and an outer event – the receipt of a check – came together outside of cause and effect and no doubt it would be meaningful to the client who received the check.

Synchronicity is an equal opportunity experience. Anyone, anywhere, at any time, can experience a meaningful coincidence. Your awareness and receptivity to the phenomenon creates an atmosphere in which you recognize synchronicities when they occur. It’s likely that more occur when you’re aware and accepting of these occurrences.

There are also situations and environments where synchronicities flourish. They are threaded throughout mass events like natural and man-made disasters. They occur in travel and creative endeavors, in social movements and popular culture, and they even might proliferate during and after UFO encounters. When our lives are in transition and during intensely emotional periods, synchronicity is usually right there with us.

As promised, here is my first guest blog post. It’s from award-winning author, spiritual teacher & intuitive, Sara Wiseman.

sarawiseman_headshotSara is the founder of Intuition University, hosts the popular radio show Ask Sara, and is a top contributor to DailyOM, InspireMeToday and more.

Here is an excerpt from her remarkable book,

Living a Life of Gratitude: Your Journey to Grace, Healing & Joy
What’s the measure of your life… from a soul perspective?

What if everything you might consider as your life’s purpose was nothing? What if all your accomplishments, when you arrived for your reckoning in heaven, nirvana, beyond the veil, wherever you believe you are going ... what if these were taken out and examined and found to be nothing—no longer shiny and bright but drab and shabby, as if collected and carted in an old grocery bag.

What if they were looked at—all your pretty things—and then discarded to float away on the breeze, the bright white tail of one particularly favorite accomplishment sent flapping, pale and gentle as a kite rising. Everything taken out and looked at and discarded, until when you reached the bottom of the bag, there was nothing left.

Nothing.

Nothing counted enough to be considered your finest accomplishment. Nothing counted enough to be considered your finest achievement. Your whole illustrious, successful, important, rewarded life, was determined a wash. Nothing counted. You arrived with nothing.

And still they let you in.

There may or may not be a pearly gate to heaven’s door, guarded by St. Peter. There may or may not be a time of reckoning, with points tallied up and sins examined under a celestial microscope. It is your choice to believe in this version of the afterlife or not—for really, what does anyone know?

Few have crossed the line, and returned to tell. And what they do tell: of white tunnels, bright light and angels, doesn’t seem to have cover a ledger in the clouds for naughty or nice.

When you lift off from the idea of right or wrong, good or bad…when you take the punitive moralistic views out of the equation, and focus instead on heart’s opening into compassion, into connection, into love ... this becomes the true measure of our lives.

Not what job we had. But how much we cared for others. Not how much money we made. But how much we loved. Not how many trips we took. But how much we enjoyed.

If you were to look at your life this way, outside of the usual bucket list of achievements and experiences, how does your life measure? How much has your heart opened, thus far? How much more would you like it to open into gratitude, for what you have experience thus far? Start today, by simply asking for this opening into thanks.
