Old Friends

I released the updated version of Leather and Lace yesterday. This was a book written in 2007 and originally published by Ellora's Cave. Not only did I change the title to Defending Lace, due to many other books online with that title, but I had to update the book.

I especially had to watch out for old technology.

I didn't think that was a problem until my female PI was looking through the phone book. By that I mean the Yellow Pages. Oh, yeah, remember them?

She was also in her automobile at one point, conducting a bit of surveillance, and pulled out an old manila envelope of research she'd collected on her mark. Nope, I thought. She'd be searching online for that information. I realized at that moment, I had a bit of updating to do.

Cell phone tech has revolutionized the world. Good ol' Google or Bing, you know.

I also added and updated the story, as well as picking up all of those loose threads I'd left unresolved years ago when I'd first written Leather and Lace. I was damned lucky to have my manuscript published by EC and years later, I still respect what Jaid Black has done with Ellora's Cave. She put erotica on the map, to the benefit of us all.

I also changed a key scene, ditching the basement where my heroine is held hostage and switching it out for a deer processing shack. Minnesota is riddled with them, I tell you. Hunting there is a way of life, a way to feed your family, as much as it is a sport.

I have my first two books in a drawer (flash drive) and I'm even thinking of getting them out, blowing off the dust and seeing what I really have there. Back then, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, however. I can just imagine the amount of updating they would need, all of the fleshing out of the characters, etc.

I also have many jump starts for books as well as a Christmas novel that's missed 2 Christmases in a row. Not this year!!!

Have you found tech relics in your work?

Have a great Sunday, everyone.
