fear
The sun may always rise, but it doesn’t always shine on us. There is plenty of anger in the world. We definitely don’t love each other as much as we should. I’m baffled as to what really causes it, I’ll leave that for another time. We can rise above it though. The sun is there, or even at night there’s light from the moon, we just have to seek it out. Many people want us to be afraid. They gain by it politically, and monetarily, they feed off our fear. The latest of what I’m hearing is the fear of terrorists sneaking across the Mexican border. I certainly can’t assure you that that will never happen. It is a remote possibility. It’s been suggested that the drug cartels could be in league with or maybe become in league with terrorists groups from the middle east. I’m not sure why they would consider that. American citizens are their customers, why would they want to harm their customers? Certainly we need and do have border patrols. I don’t foresee waves of suicide bombers coming up from Mexico. Immigration is certainly not new, we are all immigrants or descendants thereof. There have been waves of immigration before, like particularly after the Irish potato famine. People say, oh this is ILLEGAL immigration, well if we processed them, then they wouldn’t be illegal. So that’s just another buzz word or talking point. It is certainly not new either. It’s just political parties waving the embers to see if they can create a firestorm. There’s talk about them being invited up here by the president and he’s to blame. Really? If you want to discuss inviting them it goes back far before this term. I believe there’s this quote that I hope is recognized…
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, with conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed sunset gates shall stand a mighty woman with a torch, whose flame is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand glows world-wide welcome, her mild eyes command the air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. “Keep ancient lands your storied pomp!” cries she with silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddle masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
Now that sounds like an invitation. We used to understand better the value of humanity here. We used to have boundless opportunities. Now it would seem we are trying to close the “golden door” I also recall learning that it was in WWI that we invited Mexican immigration to replace workers that went off to fight in the war. Please people don’t buy into the fear and close our doors. Be diligent. Be prepared. Be watchful, but don’t be afraid. Fear is the mind-killer. Stop and think about these rants you here especially on Faux news and who really benefits on making us fearful. Who benefits from war other than the munitions dealer, the mega-wealthy? We must be on guard certainly, but we can still love each other. Well this is my rant for today, but I’m not trying to make your fearful. I’m trying to give you hope. What is my benefit by this rant? I don’t know exactly. I do think a dash of hope dissolves a mountain of fear.
