Day 7 after "Release day". My book, "Behind the Gate of Gomorrah, a Year with the Criminally Insane" is finally out. Now comes the publicity which for some writers is a chore but I really enjoy it. Here what's happened so far:
I did a 45 minute NPR interview on WAMC (A top 10 NPR show) "The Roundtable" in New York. CNN Tonight re-scheduled one hour before air time so that will be next week sometime. Tomorrow I do "The John Hines Show," in Minneapolis at CBS Radio. Followed by an interview with the website, "Biogrophile," which will feature my book and my interview in their October 2nd issue.
The most fun and informative interview came from a seemingly unlikely source. I got a call yesterday at 3:00 p.m. asking if I could fill in for two hours on a show for a radio station called "Darkradio.com" which is live out of Minneapolis but streamed on the web world-wide. The Tuesday show is entitled, "True Crime Tuesday." I thought it would be a quirky fun thing. Boy was I wrong.
The host, Dave Shrader, was incisive, entertaining, clever and extremely well informed. The show was professional and top notch. We talked for two hours about my book and what it's like to work at Napa State Hospital and what are the problems with treatment for the criminally insane. It's not often that anyone is given two hours to have their say on an important subject and to explain absolutely everything in detail. The show was fabulous. I encourage everyone to give it a listen. You can hear my interview by clicking on the "Archives" button at "Darkradio.com". I will embed the interview in my next post if anyone wants to know pretty much all there is to know about the criminally insane and their care. The show was an unexpected gem.
For tomorrow: A call to "Darkradio.com" came from an in-patient at a Minnesota State Hospital...and an email was waiting the next morning from a documentary film maker in Pennsylvania. See you then
