Why is it that every book and movie that has a computer program becoming sentient (i.e., self-aware and able to think for itself) immediately wants to destroy mankind. I know it makes for dramatic story lines, but is this more our own insecurity as humans, where we see threats all around us? In L'Orange Fire, Helena, the self-aware computer detective, rather than having the desire to eliminate mankind, is intrigued by us.
