Fall Resolution (Back to Blogging, Again)

My fall resolution is to blog much more than I have in the past, which means more than twice in a year.

I love and hate blogging.

I enjoy being able to say anything at almost any moment. It’s nice. For me, however, there is pressure. I hate editing myself. My brain and fingers move at two different speeds. So, unlike in my short stories that are edited, re-edited, re-written, and re-re-edited (and still they are not perfect) – blogs aren’t made that way. Admitting this pressure is the first step to recovery.

My grandmother asked me where I got the idea for the Mayonnaise Affair. The answer is simple. I was at work reading the news (part of my job) and there was an article about a sick bastard who was doing horrible things. While I was reading about this man’s heinous acts there was a mayonnaise commercial on television. I put the two things together, viola, The Mayonnaise Affair was born. I wrote down some notes quickly, and tucked them away in my briefcase. That night I got home and flushed it out. The bulk of it was written within three days. For no other reason than frivolous writers block it took another seven months to write only 1,000 words. But, that is what it took.

My grandmother, who has 85 years under her belt, did enjoy it.
