This past week, thanks to my sister's solidarity, I had the privilege of hosting a leader of Colombia's Association of the Families of the Detained & Disappeared, who take inspiration from the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo in Argentina. It was an intense week, filled with events at which he spoke & I interpreted, & many conversations in between about this work of memory & seeking justice.
Not surprisingly, another Colombia poem emerged from our conversations about his brother's disappearance in 1998. Even though my book manuscript is complete, I must keep writing about all that I'm learning about Colombia.
Sometimes I joke that loving Colombia is like having a bad boyfriend. So much pain.
