Loved your first novel Steve. Australia is a very tough market for indie authors but don't give up. You have fans here.

Great stuff Steve. I am glad I ventured here looking for Aussie give always. Don't give up cracking the market here. Please find the strength to start another novel, it might come quicker to you next time and you may not be as self critical.
Thanks, Laureen. I'm now well into my next novel, which is very different and, like I said in the blog piece, it's set in England (and outer space) so if the Earth doesn't work out, maybe I'll find an alien agent or publisher!
Oh damn! I just tried to read "The Book of a Strange New Things" which is set in England and outer space and it was so inane, I had to abandon it. However, you are on a winner! TBOSNTs is a real hit with other readers. It has 5 star ratings galore. Maybe there is something weird about me or maybe I just can't relate to futuristic stuff.
P.S. Have you read any Alex Miller? I recently read Coal Creek, published by Allen & Unwin, and I loved it. I found it so true to the Australian character and the Australian bush. It was an easy read but I found the writing had a haunting quality. I think that takes talent. A great story too. However, I am not a writer's critic - I just know I like my kind of good writing and I love to read something that educates us about people & cultures and has dome thing to say!I am really glad you are now into something challenging, and from your background it should be a good read. Best, Laureen.
Thanks for the kind words, Laureen.I haven't read Alex Miller, but I will have a look at his work.
Novels are the same as any other art; they are very personal and what you like is what you like. It's all in the eye (& mind) of the reader and your opinions are just as valid as someone who thinks the opposite.
Yes, I know Steve. Some people on Goodreads take my book discussions too seriously. Being an Aussie, I just always have to offer a different perspective. I do admire thoroughly anybody that can string a good yarn together. Writers, of all kinds, have my total respect and I would be ashamed to say I "hate" a book. That comment really annoys me.
