Old dog, new tricks!
In the category of old dog, new tricks, I've added Skype in the Classroom. This service, provided by Penguin, connects authors to classrooms all over the world. So this morning began with me sitting in front of my computer, talking to third graders in Nigeria!
As always, I learned as much (possibly more) from the students as they learned from me. Their questions were terrific; their enthusiasm gratifying. They reminded me of that early pleasure of reading, when stories transported me--long before Skype--to far--off places, in the company of characters unlike anyone I knew.
The experience also reminded me of the many wonderful teachers I've had throughout my life, who have wakened me to the world.

This morning's group is from Nigeria! As always, I learn as much from the children as they learn from me. They remind me of that first pleasure of reading, how stories could--long before Skype--transport you to far-off places. And once again I am reminded of how important teachers have been to me throughout my life.
