Burnley
Burnley is a town in North-West England. Burnley Grammar School was formed in 1560 and survived until 1981. By the time I became a pupil (1967) the politics of the day meant Grammar Schools had to be closed. In the case of Burnley, this was against the wishes of parents and they fought to keep this successful school open. I attended between 1967 and 1974 which was a time of change; my account dwells on that period and I have the Burnley Express to thank for their kind support in reproducing photos from that time.
Burnley includes essays on the pre-industrial revolution history of the town, and notes a little known event that links it to the character of the English people; in addition, it provides an insight to the failing education system in the town.
