Weekly Musings
This is the first week I have been keeping a journal much like John Steinbeck did with his Grapes of Wrath. Working Days is an intimate look into the life of a great writer. One of the things I am noticing is how lacking in self-esteem Steinbeck was. Okay, I get the whole self-loathing thing, but what scares me is just how long he spends doing this. The major issue with that is that it can lead to drinking and all kinds of other problems.
I forgot about the book signing in Bangor Maine today. Totally my fault. I had copies of Bad Moon and For None of Woman Born ready to go, too. In May there will be another one, this time in Albany, New York.
In Molon Labe, I have expanded the story and included more general chapters that are little more than essays reflective of the future; one of these focuses on the collective minds of the people. It is an interesting way to channel my own thoughts about the future without cramming it down people’s throats.
The novel bas been broken up into four sections. The first part focuses on the main characters and the general plight of the masses, while focusing on Jeff Orwell and Melissa Osgood. The second part focuses on the injustices committed by the State, and the third is the revolt. The last is some kind of journal, or diary, with various cryptic messages and written in a similar style as Dhalgren, by Samuel R. Delany.
What fascinates me is how rapidly things are unfolding all across the nation between the police and regular citizens. A nation divided like this cannot remain. Must find a way to include this in the story.
In other news, a fascinating look at apocalyptic fiction!
