Sad news that Ruth Rendell is no longer with us. In my opinion she is the best writer in the crime genre this generation has seen - writing as Barbara Vine, particularly. My three favourite crime writers are Ruth Rendell, P D James and Reginald Hill and now they are all gone, sadly. However, they leave a legacy of well-written, carefully crafted novels with all the twists and turns, with characters you can love and hate, with traditionally woven plots and new ways of presenting stories. In future one will pick up their books with anticipation knowing one's guaranteed a "good read".
