Operation First Response

I went to Philadelphia this weekend to attend and support Operation First Response and their Walk for the Wounded.

As someone who came from a family of military men yet didn't enlist, supporting the people of America's armed services is something that's incredibly important to me. As many of you know, any unit or deployed service member can request a book from me via my author website, and I'll send them one free of charge.

I wish I sent more.

This weekend I was fortunate enough to spend time with serious combat veterans, and hear bits of their stories. Not only of their time overseas following their orders but also the stories of their lives and their family's lives after they returned. Many of them broken and wounded -physically and mentally-.

I'm blessed and humbled beyond words to have been given the chance to help these people, and hear their stories. It has reset me once again and given me the perspective I need to be happy, work hard, and be selfless.

I am a better man today than I was last week, and it's because of them, and who they are.

For that -amongst many other things- I thank the men and women who were themselves with me this weekend, and I thank Peggy and Nick (you know who you are) for doing what you do with Operation First Response. This weekend's walk raised approximately $143,000 for the organization, and the families they support.

I couldn't care what your feelings are about war, or politics, or the President or Congress. I do hope however that you can appreciate that men and women -often young men and women- are willingly giving up years of their life to serve our nation to protect us when we need it. Argue the merits of the wars we've been involved in somewhere else.

I'm here to thank them and support them for going into harm's way when harm rears up, wherever that might be.

Many of you hopefully have seen a Suicide Pepper Challenge video that came from this weekend. If you haven't, I'll repost my video.

22 veterans commit suicide every day in America right now, and that's unacceptable. The challenge hopefully will drive some attention to the issue, and help veterans get the support they deserve.

Thanks to the folks who had fun with me this weekend, the folks who bought a LE promo book to assist as well, and all the men and women who serve, their families who serve in their own way, and all my fans who have given me a slightly louder voice so that I may speak up on behalf of those who can't.

Back to work.
