Review: Leros of the Underworld by Nathan Anton - 5/5 Stars

Leros of the Underworld The Tournament by Nathan Anton

Leros of the Underworld: The Tournament is an epic dark fantasy novel about Leros, a demon whose courageous power also has a dark side … his alter ego Demiro!

As an orphan Leros grows to be very intelligent and highly self-aware, though beneath the uncomfortable complexities of his growth is a deeply disturbing persona. Leros seems somehow trapped and imprisoned, as evidenced by his horrific visions of torture and pain. His reprieve in life is his foster mother Elaina. Once Elaina is hit by a cynical attack, the caged beast of Leros’ emotions is unleashed in the form Demiro!

Leros ends up meeting Aimi of the Underworld, where he learns a bit about who he is. However, an accident teleports him onto an alternative Earth where magic courses through the ground and where there are fantasy races and beasts by the wagon-load: elves, succubi, witches, mermaids, and many more. Leros uses compassion in his adventures to help where he can. An inevitable confrontation with a Queen leads Leros towards a momentous tournament, where imaginative creatures from all over this visually rich world will fight for the chance to defeat her and rule. But it seems Leros doesn’t know everything about his powers, and he will be tested in unimaginable ways in and out of the tournament if he wants to survive.

Leros of the Underworld: The Tournament is a stunningly complex and well-crafted novel. The author has a solid understanding of his world; and fills it with meaning, humour, and epic conflict. It’s must-read for any fantasy fan!
