Blogging 50: Chapters 8-11
Okay, just to update…I’m reading Fifty Shades of Grey for the first time and sharing my thoughts as I go. So far it’s pretty good. It probably would have had more shock factor for me if I’d read it four years ago, but I’m into it. Here goes:
1. Christian’s mad that she’s a virgin and didn’t tell him. This, for some reason, angers me. He was willing to initiate her knowing she was innocent, but apparently didn’t know she was THAT innocent. This whole elevation of virginity as some saint-like quality is very eighteenth century. But then, Christian is an old-fashioned guy, so…
2. FOOT PLAY!!! The sharing of toothbrushes is not sexy and very gross, but foot play I can totally get into. If someone wanted to nibble his way up my instep, I’d be his slave for life.
3. I’m ready for the “Mr. Grey” “Miss Steele” thing to be over. Does that end soon? I feel like once panties are shed, we can be on a first name basis.
4. I remember when use of the word “fuck” in sex scenes was so dirty and hot…I think we have this book to credit for bringing us edgier, darker sex in romance novels, wouldn’t you agree?
5. Ana Steele is actually a mutant. I know this because she has a superpower. She can come on command. Now that’s a gift. Can you do that? No? I didn’t think so.
6. “‘How would you like your eggs?’ I asked tartly. He smiles. ‘Thoroughly whisked and beaten.'” Okay, that line totally did something for me.
7. Ana’s second superpower is the ability to deep throat on the first try. Niiiiiice.
8. I think there must be two Kates because one of them is very concerned about Ana dating a creepy stalker billionaire while the other keeps encouraging her. Get it together, Kate!!
9. I actually read the whole contract in chapter 11, including the appendixes. This is remarkable because in real life, I almost always skim contracts and then lie and say I read them.
So in conclusion, still enjoying the story. The sex was tame…”vanilla” as Christian called it, but still hot. I’m assuming it’s going to get progressively dirtier, yeah? So he keeps saying stuff like, “I don’t make love…” but then he does with her. He’s changing for her. Making exceptions for her. I like that about the story and him.
Tell you what I’d like to read, and that’s a prequel detailing his introduction into BDSM by this woman–the friend of his mother’s he talks about. That would be really interesting.
That’s all for now! What do you think?
