Working on Olorun - Exerpt - Fight Scene
I’m working on Olorun, Book 5 in the Chronicles of Nahtan. I’m about half way through the first draft, so there’s still lots of writing, editing and polishing ahead. But I’m working on it everyday trying to get it done for my readers. Since I write these books to be “fast reads” and not bogged down with page after page of senseless bloat and description, that also makes writing them go a little faster. (Do we really need six pages to saddle a horse anyway?)
Just for a teaser, I thought I’d post a bit of the fight scene I’m currently working on. Please keep in mind this is only the second draft of it, so a lot can change between now and when the book is finished and ready to publish on Amazon. If you’ve read the books this far, you’ll all know Nahtan and Brijade. Jedrik is a new character in this book.
So here you go:
*****************************************
Nahtan drove his sword forward and down, using the weight to block Jedrik’s swing and push his blade to the side. The move gave Brijade an opening to score a strong hit on Jedrik’s back and she took it as soon as she saw it.
Jedrik turned a second too late, realizing which way she was coming from. He didn’t quite avoid the blow, and grunted at the force she hit him with. Nahtan turned his sword, swinging for Jedrik’s other side as Brijade ducked out of the way. Jedrik caught the movement and blocked Nahtan’s swing.
Nahtan saw Brijade step back, waiting for another opening as he pressed his attack fully on Jedrik. Nahtan didn’t let up his attacks, letting the weight of his sword wear down Jedrik’s defenses.
Their swords clanged back and forth as Jedrik tried to gain the upper hand. He swung for Nahtan’s left side, but before Nahtan could react, Brijade’s sword was there, stopping the blow before Jedrik could connect. Jedrik immediately pulled back, but Brijade followed through, managing a quick cut through the buckles on the side of his breastplate.
Jedrik cursed and turned to get away from her before she could cut deeper. Brijade easily moved out of his sword’s range. Nahtan changed tactics, coming in low with a punch under Jedrik’s arm while Brijade distracted him with another swing high for his shoulders that he was forced to raise his arms to block.
Jedrik turned suddenly, dropping low and one leg lashing out, catching Nahtan and sweeping his leg out from under him. Nahtan’s balance went off and he fell heavily to the ground.
